A game logo has a harder job than most. It has to be readable at 32 pixels in a browser tab, look premium at full size on a store page, and still say "cricket" and "Nepal" at a glance. For NPL Cricket League, we drew 30 concepts over three rounds before choosing one. Here is how the decision went.
Three rounds, thirty concepts

| Round | What we explored | What we learned |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 10 broad concepts: pennants, monograms, shields, seals | The bold "NPL" speed monogram had the most energy, but it felt flat on its own |
| 2 | 12 variations of the speed monogram | Closer, but a lettermark alone did not feel like a league, and it lacked a player |
| 3 | 8 premium emblems with a player in action, a bigger ball and a stronger Nepal identity | The angular hexagon, E8, read best at every size |
The brief for round three came from the first two: make it feel premium, like the badges of the big T20 leagues; show a player in action; make the ball bigger and give it motion; and make the Nepal identity stronger. The format would be an emblem.
What each part means
- The hexagon. Hard edges and an esports feel, built for an online game with ranked play. A hexagon also fills a square app icon better than a round seal or a tall shield.
- The gold rim. A metallic, trophy-gold frame gives the badge depth. It is the premium cue.
- The batter mid-shot. A white silhouette at the top of the swing, bat raised. It is the moment the whole game is built around.
- The flaming ball. A red ball with a fire trail, rising out of the badge. That is motion and power, and the six you are chasing.
- The crimson and blue bands. Diagonal bands in the two colours of Nepal’s flag, crossing the field behind the batter.
- "NPL" in gold, and the ribbon. The wordmark in bold, slanted gold letters, with a crimson "Cricket League" ribbon beneath it.
Making it work everywhere
A logo is a system, not one picture. From the chosen emblem we made a full version with the ribbon for the website and press kit, a mark without the ribbon for the header, a simplified icon without the lettering for favicons, and a square app icon on a night-blue background. All the letters are outlined from Teko, an open-licence typeface, so the files look the same on every device with no fonts installed.
The press kit on nplcricket.app has the emblem, mark and app icon to download, with the brand colours. For the story of the game itself, read the announcement.
