Every Nepali trader has looked at an Apple or Nvidia chart and wondered. Doing it for real is complicated: foreign-currency rules, a dollar account, an overseas broker, and a set of decisions no beginner should make on instinct. Why the US board is worth your evenings
Three reasons, in order of usefulness. First, a different rhythm: US stocks trade Monday to Friday while NEPSE trades Sunday to Thursday, and the session runs in Nepal’s evening, so you can practise on days and hours when NEPSE is closed. Second, depth and speed: the biggest US names move on volume NEPSE rarely sees, which makes stop-loss discipline and position sizing feel different — and teaches you which of your habits are yours and which are NEPSE’s. Third, literacy: the companies on this board are the ones global markets talk about; reading their charts builds a vocabulary you will meet everywhere.
Your first US paper trade, step by step
- Open the US board. In the app or at trade.stockyatra.com, tap the $ tab. Same wallet, same coins — nothing to set up.
- Pick a stock and read its page. Every symbol has a live-simulated chart, an overview and FAQs. Note the price scale: a $230 stock converts to far more coins per share than a Rs. 480 one.
- Size in coins, by risk. Decide how many coins you are willing to lose on this one trade, then let the free position-size calculator turn that into a share count. Do not size by “one share” — that is how oversized US positions happen.
- Go long or short, set stop-loss and target. Both fire on their own, even with the app closed and even at 2 a.m. Nepal time. A push notification tells you what happened.
- Review in the morning. Open the position history, then replay the session and trade it again with what you now know. This is the whole point.

Nepal time is UTC+5:45; New York is UTC−5 in winter and UTC−4 in summer, so the offset shifts by an hour twice a year. The app shows each board’s hours next to its name, so check there rather than memorising.
What to practise on this board specifically
- Overnight discipline. Set the exit before you sleep. If you find yourself waking to “check”, your position is too big.
- Converting risk across currencies. Think in coins at risk, not in dollars or shares. The conversion is automatic; the discipline is not.
- Not chasing the famous name. A well-known company is not a well-timed trade. Use the same entry rules you use on NABIL.
