Every year a student makes genuinely useful notes, passes the paper, and graduates. The notes leave with them — on a laptop, in a drawer, in a chat thread nobody can find. The next batch starts from nothing and rebuilds the same thing.
The cycle, drawn out
Nothing about this is anyone's fault. There has simply never been an obvious place to put notes where they outlive the person who made them.
What IdeaTopic actually is
A free library, sorted the way a course is: faculty, subject, semester. Three rules define it:
- Reading needs no account. No sign-up wall, no upload-to-download trade. Open it and read.
- Nothing costs money. No subscription, no per-download charge, no ads. Reading is intended to stay free permanently, and that is written into the platform licence rather than only promised.
- The contributor is named. Your name stays on your note for as long as anyone reads it. That is the entire payment, and for most students it turns out to be enough.
Where it actually stands
Those are the real numbers, read off the site. 82 notes. Not thousands. Not ten thousand.
It would be easy to write a bigger number. It would also be the fastest way to lose a student's trust, because the moment they search their subject and find an empty shelf, the number is exposed and so is everything else the page claimed.
So the site publishes the count live, and says plainly which subjects are empty. 2,214 subjects exist to be filled and 82 notes exist so far. That gap is the honest description of a young library, and it is also the invitation.

- If it is empty, upload yours. Two minutes, and a photograph of handwritten pages is fine.
