Every good student has a study partner — someone who asks “why did you do that?” at exactly the right moment. Trading is no different, and yet almost everyone tries to learn it alone: a few videos, a practice account, some trades, and then a quiet stall they never quite understand.

This guide is a practical plan for finding a trading study partner in Nepal. It uses the tools StockYatra added in its September 2026 community update — the Yatra Users directory, friend requests and direct messages — but the principles work anywhere. Nothing here involves real money.

Why partners beat willpower

Trading skill comes from repetition: many small, reviewed trades rather than a few big, emotional ones. The hard part is not understanding that — it is continuing. Three things happen when another person is involved:

  • Accountability. You show up when someone notices. A partner who asks “did you do your review?” works the way a gym partner does.
  • Exposed reasoning. If you cannot explain in two sentences why you entered a trade and where your stop is, you did not have a plan — you had a feeling. Saying it out loud reveals that.
  • Pattern spotting. A partner sees what you cannot: that you always enter too early, or move your stop when a trade goes against you.
One caution: a partner is for reasoning, not for copying. If either of you starts trading the other’s picks without understanding them, you have swapped one bad habit for another.

The four-step plan

Four steps to find a trading study partner: search the directory, pick for habits, send a request, set a weekly review
From stranger to study partner in four steps.

Step 1 — Search the directory

StockYatra’s Yatra Users directory lists every trader on the platform. Open it from the online-traders pill at the top of the chat screen. Use the quick chips — online now, verified, my friends, Session Toppers — or the full filters for country, minimum level and trading style. Sort by most active, rank, level, name or newest. If a friend has shared their profile, search their name or trader ID directly.

Step 2 — Pick for habits, not rank

Every row in the directory shows the same signals, and they are not equally useful for choosing a partner.

The signals on every Yatra Users row: league and rank, level, trade count, learning streak, achievements, last active
Rank shows results. Streak and trade count show habits — and habits make better partners.
SignalWhat it tells youWeight for a partner
League and rankPosition on the leaderboardLow — results, not habits
LevelHow far along the learning pathMedium — aim for near your own
Trade countHow much practice they have put inHigh
Learning streakHow consistently they show upHighest
AchievementsMilestones unlockedMedium
Last activeOnline now, or whenHigh — you need replies

A trader with a long streak, a few hundred trades and a level close to yours will be a better partner than a top-ten name who logs in once a month.

Step 3 — Send a request, and say why

Send a friend request from their row or profile. It is worth saying hello in Global chat first, or mentioning them with an @, so the request arrives with context. They can accept or decline, and there is no public record of a decline — so there is no cost to asking. You can cancel a request you sent any time.

Step 4 — Set a weekly review ritual

Once you are friends, direct messages open up — private, and only between the two of you. Agree on one message each per week with three parts: your best trade and why it worked, your worst trade and what you would change, and one rule you will follow next week. Swipe right on their message to reply with a quote so the thread stays clear. Keep it short; the ritual matters more than the length.

A 30-day version

If you are following our 30-day NEPSE practice plan, slot this in: week one, find a partner and exchange your first review; weeks two to four, keep the weekly message and add one shared question to Global chat each week. By day 30 you will have four written reviews — a trading journal you were never disciplined enough to keep alone.

Frequently asked questions

Why do I need a study partner to learn trading?

Because trading feedback is noisy: good decisions can lose and bad ones can win. Alone, you learn the wrong lesson from single results. A partner who asks “why did you do that?” exposes gaps in your reasoning, notices patterns you cannot see in yourself, and makes showing up a habit.

Where do I find a partner on StockYatra?

Open the Yatra Users directory from the online-traders pill at the top of the chat screen. Search by name or trader ID, or filter by online now, verified, country, minimum level and trading style. Send a friend request straight from the list.

Should I pick someone with a high rank?

Not necessarily. Rank shows results; learning streak and trade count show habits. For a study partner, habits matter more — a consistent trader at your level who will actually reply beats a #1 who never does.

What should we talk about each week?

Three things each: your best trade and why it worked, your worst trade and what you would change, and one rule you will follow next week. Keep it to one direct message each. The ritual matters more than the length.

Is any real money involved?

None. StockYatra is a paper-trading simulator on live NEPSE data. You practise with virtual coins that have no cash value, there is no per-trade fee, and direct messages are free and only between accepted friends.

What if my partner starts sending stock tips?

That is a signal to change partners. StockYatra’s community rules ban buy/sell tips and “sure-shot” calls, and you can remove a friend at any time — the DM closes automatically. A good partner asks about your reasoning; they do not hand you picks.
